Michael arrived at 1.30 a.m without any problems with the taxi finding the location. I think he, David and Alex might have had a bit of a social time before going to bed. Suffice to say Geoff and I were sitting outside by the pool at 8 a.m enjoying the warm sunshine and the peace and quiet! Geoff even had a swim.
By 10 ish, people had surfaced and we were trying out the coffee maker, which for some reason did not work. Disaster!! Helen had to go and collect her bike, which she did with David and Alex, Michael had a work call to do, so Geoff and I headed into the old town for coffee, to explore and to pick up provisions for lunch.
Julie and Andrew were due to arrive around 1 so we made sure we were back in good time so that lunch would be ready as Helen had to get her bike down to the transition area, with all her kit so that it would be ready for tomorrow.
What no one else knew was that they would be carrying a surprise guest! I had been keeping a secret for some weeks and over the last 36 hours in particular I had been very careful not to let the cat out of the bag!! It all went beautifully! Everyone was sitting outside when I had a message to say they had arrived so I disappeared off to let them in and as we walked around the side of the house to say hello, Anna followed on behind! It was so lovely to see Helen‘a delight at seeing her cousin!
Lunch was a happy affair and afterwards we walked down to the town, some 35 minutes away and met Helen after she had sorted everything out. This gave us an opportunity to look at the location of things for tomorrow and begin to plan what the support crew might be able to do in terms of seeing her at different points on the route.
Back at the villa late in the afternoon some of us prepared a very large meal of veggie pasta, whilst others enjoyed the pool or just sitting in the sun or shade. It had been a hot day but that meant the evening warmth was lovely until late on.
Following on from dinner there was a strategy meeting to work out who could get where on the route. Military precision seemed to be required and hopefully we all know what we are doing. It will be an early start in the morning for all of us!
