Not content with being here for just the half iron man we have a birthday to celebrate too. It started with getting up early to get Michael to the airport, Geoff going with Helen just in case she was suffering any after effects from yesterday. I went back to sleep and had a bit of a lie in like most others!!
David and Andrew managed a run so by the time we were all back and had had breakfast it was around 10.30. Some of us went down into Alcúdia as there was a huge market there today selling everything from fruit and vegetables to leather goods, porcelain, clothes and souvenirs. We enjoyed a leisurely coffee in a little square off the main drag and a mooch around the market only being tempted by some fruit. Then all except Alex went to Pollenca for lunch. David cycled Helen‘s bike back whilst the others drove, all meeting up in the town centre for a delicious tapas lunch.
Pollenca is another attractive Mallorcan town and it also has a long set of steps up to a tiny Catholic Church which we went up to work off our lunch.
There were lovely views over the countryside and an excellent shop on the way down selling some interesting balsamic vinegars!!! We have a blackberry one and also lemon and bay leaf.
Anna, Helen and David at the top of the steps.
By this time it was getting a bit late so we went back to the cars and headed back to the villa, some to have a snooze, others to shower and change, and poor Andrew to drive around hunting for somewhere to buy milk and tea bags!!! It was successful for which the white tea drinkers were very grateful!!!
For Geoff’s birthday we had booked a restaurant in Port de Pollenca a few kilometres away. We booked taxis and left early enough to have a wander along the front and some drinks at a bar, before heading to a traditional Mallorcan restaurant.
The meal was excellent, catering for both vegetarian and gluten free diets without a problem. It was also incredibly well priced and really good value for money. If anyone is interested it was called Celler La Parra!
Back to the villa to play Dobble, a game Julie and Andrew had brought with them. There was much laughter to the point of collapse by some people, but a great way to end the day. It was quite a late night!!
