Sad day today as we are all going our separate ways. Michael and Helen were away by 7.45 to get the flight to KL then onto Langkawi for a couple of days. Michael then returns to London for work and Helen goes on to Penang to meet up with the boys. They all fly home together next weekend.
Leo picked the rest of us up at around 10 and we went with his family to a noodle bar. Now for those of you interested in our coffee drinking, we have not had a coffee since KL airport 😱 This is just not a coffee drinking place and actually with the heat and humidity we are not missing it! Having said this at the restaurant this morning kopi was on the menu. A strong black coffee, not bitter and a nice surprise. Did we want/need breakfast? Not really, but we did manage a small amount of noodles and I have to say it was really tasty.
It is bank holiday today and Leo says there is not much for families to do so they often go shopping, and that’s what we did. We also needed to as the zip on Geoff’s suitcase broke this morning, along with his watch strap yesterday. What is it with us at the moment?
I always find it far more interesting walking around shops in other countries than I do at home, looking at what local people buy! And at all the interesting local fruit and vegetables that I simply do not recognise!
Suitcase bought we headed to the roti house for a late and light lunch! Thankfully it was light!! A thin sort of pancake which you could have with very little or a lot! Sweet or savoury. I went savoury and had one with onion and egg. Didn’t manage it all but made a good effort.
Next to leave was Anna, so we headed back to Peter’s house where all the suitcases were to say goodbye. This is getting more sad! Leo drove us to our hotel for the night whilst Anna showered and changed and he left us with instructions to be ready to be picked up for dinner at 5! Really?!!!
For the first time in a few days we are feeling a bit quiet as we are no longer part of a holiday house of 9 or part of a bigger party. This part of the holiday is ending and the next part is beginning but the last bit has been so much fun and in some ways I don’t want it to end, although a reduction in food will be a good thing!
Once in the hotel our first task is to pack Geoff’s things into the new suitcase. It has a combination lock on it just like mine! There are instructions as to how to set it. So far so good. So what was the problem. Geoff tried, I tried, then Geoff tried again and all of a sudden the case locked. 🤦♀️The trouble was it wasn’t supposed to, we weren’t at that stage yet!! Now how to release the lock? Geoff tried, I tried, then Geoff tried again, and finally got it open, but the code is not what we would have chosen. Oh dear!
As promised we are picked up and taken to the very final family meal of our time here. This one was more like up market Chinese takeaway. 5 different dishes with boiled rice - fish, sweet and sour pork(much nicer than takeaway!), a beef dish, green beans and another vegetable dish. One of them had something called bitter melon in which I actually liked!
After dinner we said some very grateful thank you’s and good byes to Leo’s family who had done so much to make these few days so special. Words fail to express just what an experience it has been and how warm, friendly and hospitable they have been.
As a point of interest, at 7pm it’s still 30degrees!
Then time to say goodbye to David, Alex and Leo. I really don’t like all these farewells. It’s all a bit emotional!
Definitely feeling a bit sad tonight but hope to wake up to excitement tomorrow as we head to the jungle for a couple of days! I have no idea when we will be able to get a decent WiFi signal, but the blog will be back as soon as I can!
PS! Rubbish WiFi at hotel so couldn’t send this before our jungle trip. Now back so hopefully I can catch up!!
